THERMAL GASIFICATION (SYNGAS)

  • PDF

The technology is based on thermal gasification process. Gasification is a process of partial oxidation in which a carbon source: coal or biomass is decomposed by heating to carbon monoxide, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and other hydrocarbon molecules such as methane. This mixture of gases is known as "syngas" and its precise characteristics depend on the parameters under which the synthesis takes place. Syngas is burned inside internal combustion engines resulting in a combined production of heat and electrical power.

The main technological systems in this process are: processing and preparation of raw materials, gasification, syngas purification, combined production of heat and electrical power, utilization of the waste heat and production of briquettes.
